Piercing Beauty Instructions:
1. Insert the rubber plug opposite of the art piece into the receptacle end of a sterile, unused, freshly unwrapped needle.
2. Press down on the plug to ensure that it is securely embedded in the needle receptacle end.
3. Have a professional, trained piercing artist pierce the skin only in a safe, sterilized area of the skin. As always, play a part in your own health care. Be aware that the professional piercer should be including the following in your piercing experience:
4. They should always use aseptic technique, to ensure a sterile environment. Use sterile needles, gloves, and 70% or less alcohol or 10% bleach solution to clean skin and table surfaces. Here is where being a biotech major helps with my hobby; the lower the percentage of alcohol, the more bacteria it kills. This is because alcohol kills bacteria by slowly dehydrating it. If the alcohol has too high of a percentage, say, 90%, then it evaporates too quickly without a chance to fully dehydrate the bacteria. The lower percentage of alcohol allows bacteria to be more effectively killed. If their gloves are not sterile, ensure that they wash their gloves with alcohol before proceeding.
5. To sterilize the skin, the professional piercer should use 70-90% rubbing alcohol, moving the swab in an outward circular motion starting from the area to be pierced and moving outward. This prevents re-contamination of areas already sterilized.
6. The professional piercer should pinch the skin between their fingers to ensure that only skin is pierced, and that no blood vessels, tendons, bones, or any body tissue that is not JUST SKIN is not being pierced.
7. The professional piercer should hold the needle bevel up on the way in, and bevel down when removing.
8. The professional piercer should count to three, and then ask you to breathe out. As you are exhaling, the piercer should put the needle through the skin.
9. Place the included rubber plug on the sharp end of the needle to prevent slippage or prodding of the needle from the exposed end.
10. Wear, feel, and look fabulous!
11. Have the professional piercing artist remove the needle and sterilize the pierced area.
12. The artwork design can be re-used over and over, as it is not part of the needle that pierces the skin. However, if the design is exposed to biological fluids, clean with 90% alcohol and 10% bleach solution, taking care not to damage the design.
13. Always work and play in a clean, safe, sane, and consentual environment.
